Media Center Mission Statement:
The primary objective of Mullen Public Schools Educational Media Center is to implement, enrich and support the educational program of the school. As well as instill in students a life-long love of reading and to provide the knowledge, tools and technology to research for personal interests and educational needs.
The library is the center of the school, a welcoming place for students to come to relax, to play, to explore, to learn, and have fun without any trepidation. A place for all students of all age levels to collaborate and share ideas and information successfully. It is important to promote the love of reading and expose students to all genres, authors, and illustrators.
At the elementary level (K-5) students are taught library skills, including book care, parts of a book, authors and illustrators,organization of the library, spine labels, call numbers, OPAC system. Students also learn literature appreciation, book awards and genres. Students are exposed to cultural diversity, reference sources (print and Digital). 3rd grade is introduced to keyboarding and upper level students learn research skills, digital citizenship and different types of technology skills through the learning.com program.
At the High School level students are encouraged to use the library as a commons area, a place to relax and read, a place to extend classroom curriculum knowledge and to collaborate with others. Students are involved in reading challenges and have created book trailers for elementary students.
